(City Clerk Elaine Doerfling)

Recommended Action:

Recommendation

It is recommended that City Council either:

1.                     Appoint Sharon Thompson to a four-year term that will expire July 15, 2022; or

2.                     Direct the City Clerk to re-advertise seeking additional applications.

Body

Background:

At its meeting of July 10, 2018, the City Council directed the City Clerk to advertise and invite applications for a Civil Service Board term expiring July 15, 2018.  In conformance with standard practice, the notice was placed on the City’s website, posted at the usual Civic Center locations, and published twice in the Easy Reader (July 19 and 26), with an application filing deadline of 6 p.m., Monday, August 20.

Only the incumbent, Sharon Thompson, submitted an application (received July 11).  Ms. Thompson has served as a Civil Service Board member since January 14, 2014, when she was appointed to fill an unscheduled vacancy.  She was reappointed later that year (on June 18, 2014) to a full four-year term, which expired July 15, 2018.
