Recommendation

It is recommended that City Council authorize the City Clerk to advertise and request applications from interested parties for a Civil Service Board term that will expire July 15, 2018.

Body

Background

There is one term on the Civil Service Board that is due to expire on July 15, 2018.  The seat is currently held by Sharon Thompson, who was initially appointed on January 14, 2014 to fill an unscheduled vacancy, and then was reappointed on June 18, 2014 to a full four-year term.  Board members must be qualified electors of Hermosa Beach.

{Due to illness in the City Clerk’s office, this matter regretfully was not brought to the attention of the City Council in May, as is normally done to allow adequate time for the notice/application process to run its course and appointment to occur before the term expires.  Current members may continue serving until new appointments are made.}

A notice inviting applications will be placed on the City’s website, posted at the usual Civil Center locations, and published in the Easy Reader twice (July 19 and 26), setting a filing deadline of 6 p.m. Monday, August 20, with a report back to the Council at its August 28 meeting for the scheduling of applicant interviews.
