Update:
In early March, Congressman Lieu’s office reached out to the City regarding a bill to study expanding the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation area down the coast to include the beaches. Recreation Areas make scientific support and in some cases infrastructure resources available to build trails, parks, etc. It does not affect private property in any way and there are no unfunded mandates on cities either.
Hermosa Beach accepted the invitation to be part of the study area and on Monday, March 28, 2016, City Manager Tom Bakaly met for a briefing with Legislative Director Andrew Lachman. Attached is a Fact Sheet and Map that was provided at the briefing.
Congressman Ted W. Lieu held a press conference on Thursday, March 31, 2016 to formally announce his new legislation to study the expansion.
