Body

Background

The Grades of Green VERTE Gala raises funds for the Youth Corps Eco-Leadership Program.  Since the program’s inception, the Youth Corps Eco-Leadership Program has had students from Hermosa Beach on the Youth Corps.  In 2016, one of the students (Max) planted 100 trees on the greenbelt as his Grades of Green project and another student (Riley) raised awareness about and helped pass out over 200 rain barrels to community members to help reduce water waste.  In years past, students have spoken in front of the City to get polystyrene and plastic bags banned, implemented Foam Free Fridays at their school to get rid of Styrofoam lunch trays and Grades of Green has also done multiple waste reduction assemblies at schools.  Hermosa Beach continues to be involved with the Youth Corps Eco-Leadership Program.

Fiscal Implications

Funds are available in the City Council Special Events account.
